Transfer Case Won't Shift Into 4 Low Light
My 2002 Ford Explorer only has 4x4 auto, 4x4 high and 4 x4 low. AWD vehicles are considerably more efficient than 4WDs. I've added the 1987 and the 1988 & on illustrations to this page: Driveline/Transfer Cases on the Linkage and then Illustration tabs. My 2005 ford excursion got stuck on low range cant get it out!!!!!!! I just drove 25 Miles in 4wd low at 15 MPH, still SO GLAD for the solution. The primary difference between 4h and 4L comes down to speed. From energizing the relay and thus commanding the shift into low at the transfer case. Six in a Row Makes It Go!!

If you're not it will not allow the transfer case to shift into 4L. My Ford f150 goes in 4 low and not go in to 4 high. I got a ford explorer sport trac xlt v5 4l 2005 ist it normal i got to kick on the hub to engage and disengage my 4low 4 high and 2wd work fine just the 4 low it had a hard time to go into it i have to play between high and low after kicking the hub on the wheels and i also have to play between reverse neutral and drive for it to lock onto the low 4x4. If you're climbing a hill, you'll select first gear (or low gear) to make it easier on your legs. Drove in reverse for a bit, then stopped and put it in neutral and that fixed it.

Just to let you know I tried the backup thing you talked about here and it came out of 2 wheel low perfectly! Thanks all, TransAm77, you just saved me $$$. I heard something coming from the transfer case almost like a "grinding" noise or a change of gears? In both cases, all four wheels are receiving power from the engine via the transfer case, but the gearing selected within the transfer case (high or low, just like with our mountain bike) determines your top speed and capabilities.

Well the problem Im running into is that it wont go down. In almost all cases, you can shift from 2H to 4H on the fly at any speed. All you have to do is drive. The "disconnect the battery" solution that has helped some of you may be a matter of doing so forcing a clearing of a "don't shift" command that has somehow been generated in the oversight circuitry. My 4 wheel drive is stuck in 4 low. I tried the back up method. What's the difference? They put new ones in and then it shifted perfectly. This 700hp+ monster has full-time 4WD and nine specialized drive modes. I need to understand this for my plans. I tried reverse n backing up a little. Two-wheel drive works well for the most part on that pavement. It was my husbands first day of work and you helped save his new job. I had the transfer case rebuilt and everything but those inserts was fine. Is this system better than FWD, RWD, or 2WD?

Take a look at the transfer case lever inside your older Toyota Tacoma. I just took my husband's truck out of 4wd low using these instructions. So if you want to confidently go over the river and through the woods, Grandmas everywhere prefer the mechanical strength of 4WD. However, most manufacturers of passenger vehicles will offer FWD with their vehicles because time has proven it to have superior traction over RWD cars. The downside of AWD is long-term reliability. But maybe i can get suggestions on what to check at home to diagnose the issue. I took a look at the drawings, regardless of which transfer case i have, i'd have to pay someone to do that sort of work, taking apart my transfer case is wayyyyyy beyond my comfort level and probably tool level. No dashboard indicator showed anything about being stuck in 4x4 low. P. s. I once owned a 78' Trans Am. There's no need to be a skilled off-road racer to know how to make it through a canyon. Most of us have seen vehicles with buttons or dials that allow us to select weather or driving conditions.
You can still operate the vehicle at higher speeds in this position, although you probably want to keep that speed under 50 miles-per-hour. And more good news - these trucks are fairly dumb/simple, and don't have any interlocks to prevent you from shifting into 4Hi or 4Lo. If your transmission is located under your engine facing sideways (a transverse transmission) - and connects to the front wheels, you have FWD since only the front wheels mechanically receive engine power.

I just had this problem on my 07 f150. That must happen alot thanks Ford. It doesn t grind, it just won t go into 4 low. BIG F: 1995 F-Superduty under construction— converting to 6. It's not that hard to pull the shifter to work on it. Can not believe how simple a fix. The defect was with the operator. Your trick worked wonderfully. The first time this happened I was sure I had burned up my transmission. Any ideas please!!!!! 8/24/2017 this was the best tip i had everything what was needed to work thanks. Our signs are everywhere. In a sense, the system is comparable to AWD, but you determine when 4WD is needed.
Im glad I didn't have to drive 3 hours in 4wd! Sounds like the shifter module motor or shifter rail is not working properly. But your BW1356 has the different linkage which pokes up through the side of the transmission hump Right? I parked, turned off the engine. The advantage of this system is that you are in control.
